Kaiona Beach Park is a 4-acre family-friendly beach park located at the foot of Ko'olau Mountains at the south end of Waimanalo Bay on Oahu's windward coast. The beach's turquoise water lives up to its name Kaiona, which means "attractive sea" in the Hawaiian language.

The beach is the location of an ancient Hawaiian fishpond, called Pahonu Pond, which offers excellent swimming opportunities for its calm and clear waters as well as sandy bottom.

This part of the beach is popular among children and novice swimmers. During low tide, the walls of the fishpond are visible. Outside of the seawall is a mixture of rocks and sandy patches.

The pond's name means "turtle fence" in the Hawaiian language.

According to a legend, a turtle meat-loving chief of the district had the pond built so he can have a steady supply of live turtles. Honus or green sea turtles remain abundant in this beach which also offers snorkeling opportunities.

The beaches of Waimanalo are the most magically picturesque pieces of tropical paradise you could ever imagine, and Kaiona Beach Park is no exception. Soft white sand, bright turquoise ocean, and sun kissed rippled mountains create an ideal setting to relax ad settle into the quiet, easy pace of island life.

Although the beach is narrow in some parts, it is long and offers plenty of shade trees. Two small tide pools and the beach's typically calm water makes it a great spot for families with young children.

The mountains embracing this stretch of the coast are stunning, and if for some reason you tire of staring at turquoise water you can turn and enjoy an up-close-and-personal view of this mountain range whose unique shape and curves are such a unique signature of Oahu.

Waimanalo town is quaint and historic, with a unique "rural Hawaii" vibe that isn't really found anywhere else on this part of the island. It's definitely worth visiting in conjunction with your Kaiona beach trip! The town is very small and Kalanianaole highway passes right through it.

There's an eclectic mix of shops ranging from art galleries to tacquerias to Hawaiian BBQ to health food cafes. Be sure to stop by the legendary Dave's Hawaiian Ice Cream for some fresh, locally made ice cream!

If you love snorkeling, there’s no better place than Kaiona Beach Park. South of Waimanalo Bay Beach Park, a narrow strip of steeply sloping sands, abundant leafy shade and calm and inviting shallow waters make this the kind of beach where you’ll want to spend more time in the water than out of it.

Just offshore, many large coral-laden rocks and an abundance of vibrant juvenile reef fish offer a better-than-an-aquarium show. I’ve never snorkeled here without notching at least one honu sighting. Turtles stay close enough to shore that you can watch them surface from the beach.
