Lanikuhonua Beach is a small, picturesque beach on the west shore or leeward coast of Oahu, right behind JW Marriot at Ko Olina resort.
This beach is protected by an offshore reef which forms a natural lagoon with shallow water, an ideal spot for young kids to swim and play. There are also excellent snorkeling opportunities as well as sea turtle sightings.
Also called Secret Beach, Lanikuhonua, which means "where the heaven meets the earth," is one of most beautiful places in Oahu. In fact, it is one of the most popular venues for beach weddings in the island.
The beach has rocky areas that are excellent for wedding pictorials and patches of fine golden sand ideal for sun bathing and picnics. Palms and other trees provide shade. Sunsets here are also breathtaking.
Located on the Hawaiian island of O.ahu, between the Ewa and Wai .anae moku (district), the area was once the beloved vacationing home for the 15th ruling chief of ancient O.ahu, Chief Kakuhihewa.
Today, the land is the responsibility of the James Campbell Company, who continues the legacy of Alice Kamokilaikawai Campbell, daughter of well-known business and community leaders, James and Abigail Kuaihelani Maipinepine Campbell.
In 1939, Kamokila, as she was commonly known, chose this beachfront property as her home. Her home included a thatched Hawaiian hale (house) within the lush, tropical surroundings.
She named this place Lanikuhonua, “Where Heaven Meets the Earth.” Throughout her life, Kamokila dedicated Lanikuhonua as a place to celebrate cultural traditions of Hawai.i. Like her parents, Kamokila knew that caring for the land’s resources would provide a better environment and a better quality of life for Hawai.i’s people
